Display & Overlay Film

What is Film?

While the term “film” can be used in the description of banner, trade show or backlit materials its traditional definition is a polyester base material which has typically been geared towards a Dye inkjet print environment. Polyester materials have provided print service providers with thin, light weight gloss material in either a White or Clear for use in everything from photo reproduction to overlay film in GIS/mapping applications.

Display films are commonly forgotten when deciding on a material for backlit or indoor display banner applications dues to the increase in cross platform products, such as traditional photo paper being used as an indoor banner material. Print providers often forget that these films were engineered to provide added tear resistance, allow for reverse printing or “mirror imaging” of graphics for added protection in backlit applications, and that they offer a uniform print base for optimal colour.

As with any product, we strongly recommend that you refer to each products specification sheet for more detailed information. These sheets are an invaluable asset when determining laminate and mounting recommendations, ink saturation points and recommended printer usage. These guidelines are created by the manufacturers to save you time and money!
