The term “Fine Art” in relation to paper has become cloudy as it’s often marketed for papers which are sold in various colours and textures. A TRUE fine art paper undergoes special manufacturing and has regulated guidelines which are designed to give the paper increased longevity and to prevent yellowing. These papers provide a unique finish to projects from diplomas and certificates to Fine Art/Giclee and Photo reproduction. When making your choices, some key options to watch out for are things such as: How long do you want the print to last? Is it being displayed? What printer are you using and what inks?
Answers to these questions will help you determine if you need a higher quality 100% lignin free paper to eliminate yellowing, a paper with optical brighteners to give the appearance of added colour pop and what type of surface coating is best suited for added longevity. Whether you are an architect looking to make a special presentation of a final rendition, an artist looking for a “museum” grade paper for a reproduction or just designing from home and are looking for a paper for your invitations, a Fine Art Paper is a unique alternative to traditional paper to customize your final print.
As with any product, we strongly recommend that you refer to each products specification sheet for more detailed information. These sheets are an invaluable asset when determining mounting and framing recommendations, surface variations and image permanence. These guidelines are created by the manufacturers to save you time and money!
